Bucs Bid for Stellies Skipper

Orlando Pirates are apparently in talks with Stellenbosch FC regarding a potential purchase of one of their key players.

According to reports, Pirates have made an official bid for Stellenbosch’s captain and right-back, Deano van Rooyen. Details regarding the exact amount of the bid have not been disclosed.

Although Stellies recently offered him a contract extension, they are “resigned” to the possibility of losing Van Rooyen to the Sowetan outfit, which suggests that the offer is substantial enough for them to consider letting the 27-year-old footballer go.

Making his debut in 2016, Van Rooyen has played in over 150 games for the Cape Winelands-based club. In December 2023, he helped them clinch their first major championship when they triumphed over TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout final.

In the 2023/24 season, the Bucs finished second in the Premier Soccer League. By bringing Van Rooyen on board, they aim to enhance their right-back position and strengthen their defence as they aim for the league title in the upcoming season.
